Summit Academy Celebrates 33 Graduates in June 2017 Ceremony
Based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, The Academy Schools is a network of schools that provide at-risk youth with the educational and rehabilitative services they need to forge successful futures. Recently, one of The Academy Schools’ campuses, Summit Academy, which serves young men between the ages of 14 and 18, held an event to recognize the graduation of 33 of its students.
The commencement ceremony for Summit Academy graduates took place on June 22, 2017. It began with a vocal performance by one of the students, followed by several encouraging speeches, including speeches delivered by former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback, Charlie Batch and Pittsburgh Public School Board Vice President, Sylvia Wilson. Summit Academy’s valedictorian and senior speaker also had the opportunity to address their fellow graduates.
WTAE-TV’s Action News 4 program featured the ceremony on its evening broadcast. In interviews with the news crew, several graduates revealed that their past experiences led them to believe that they would never graduate from high school. Therefore, the achievement held significant meaning for them and their families.
